“I don’t have much longer. I don’t know when the door (to retirement) will close, but I know it’s not much longer.”
LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers) was responding to a question from the local media in the locker room following the Lakers’ 2023-2024 National Basketball Association (NBA) road win over the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center in New York City, New York, USA, on 먹튀검증 Monday about the timing of his retirement.
James is already a “living legend,” having played in the NBA for 21 seasons since his debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2003-2004 season. He’s accomplished everything there is to accomplish in his career, including becoming the first player to reach the 40,000-point, 10,000-assist, 10,000-rebound mark, winning four championships and four MVP awards.
As James says, it’s clear that his retirement is not far off. James, born in 1984, is past the point of no return. However, he still shows no signs of slowing down from his position at the top of the league. Retirement is on the horizon, but it”s hard to say how many years away it will be.
James was the star of the Lakers’ 116-104 win over Brooklyn on Sunday, scoring a whopping 40 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. He was a tremendous shooter from three-point range, making a whopping nine of 10 attempts. The nine three-pointers tied James’ career high for a single game. It was also the 77th 40-point game of his career, tying him with Oscar Robertson for seventh on the all-time list.
“It’s unbelievable,” Lakers head coach Davin Hamm said after the game, “all nine of his threes were exactly what we needed.” Teammate Anthony Davis added: “It’s still amazing. He did everything from the 3-point line tonight, and it was great to sit (on the bench) and watch him do that.”
The Lakers are 42-33 and in ninth place in the Western Conference. They trail the 10th-place Golden State Warriors by 1.5 games, but have a 3.5-game lead over the 11th-place Houston Rockets for the final play-in game. The Lakers started out in the play-in tournament last season as well, but made a strong run all the way to the Western Conference Finals. If James is healthy, they can do it again this season.
