After 29 years of winning, can the LG Twins make the 2023 Golden Globe Awards an LG feast?
After winning the Korean Series for the first time in 29 years, LG has 12 Golden Glove nominees, the most of any of the 10 teams.
The shortstop category is particularly competitive. “Captain” Oh Ji-hwan is up for the award for the second year in a row, ahead of Kia’s Park Chan-ho. It will also be interesting to see if Hong Chang-ki, who leads the league in on-base percentage and runs scored, can regain the outfield title for the second year in a row.
Since winning the title 29 years ago in 1994, LG has had five winners: catcher Kim Dong-soo, first baseman Seo Yong-bin, second baseman Park Jong-ho, 안전놀이터 third baseman Han Dae-rae and outfielder Kim Jae-hyun.
▶SSG’s Choi Jung to win 9th Doosan Yangji…2nd all-time if he wins the award
SSG’s Choi and Doosan’s Yang Yang-ji are the most decorated players on the Golden Glove list, having won the award eight times. Choi has won the Golden Glove eight times in 12 seasons, including his first award in 2011, making him the best third baseman in the KBO. If Choi wins the award, he will become the most decorated third baseman in the league, surpassing Han Dae-rae (formerly of the Ssangbaeul), who won the award eight times.
Yang will also be looking to win his ninth Golden Glove. He has won the award seven times as a catcher and once as a designated hitter, and has been named a Golden Glove winner in all but one of the last nine seasons (2017). If he wins, Yang will surpass Kim Dong-soo (formerly of the Heroes), who is currently tied for first place in the catcher category with seven wins. Meanwhile, the most Golden Glove winner of all time is current Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop, who has won the award 10 times.
DH competition among the league’s top veterans
The Designated Hitter category is a battle of the KBO’s top veteran hitters, with 17 Golden Gloves won by players on the roster. From KIA’s Choi Hyung-woo (6 wins), LG’s Kim Hyun-soo, NC’s Son As-seop (5 wins), and Lotte’s Jeon Jun-woo (1 win) to SSG’s Choo Shin-soo, who has never won a KBO Golden Glove but is one of the best hitters in Korea, the list of nominees is impressive. With such a strong field of candidates, it will be interesting to see who wins the award.
Who has the most votes?
It’s also interesting to see who will receive the most votes and percentage of votes. Last year, Ki Sung-hoo Lee, who won the regular season MVP, received 304 out of 313 votes with 97.1 percent of the vote. The previous record for the most votes was 350 by Doosan’s Lee Jong-wook in the 2007 season, and the highest percentage of votes was 99.4 percent by NC’s Yang Ji in the 2020 season.
Who will win their first Golden Glove?
Some players are looking to win their first individual award. Hanwha’s Noh Si-hwan, who led the country in home runs and RBIs in the 2023 season and became the “National No. 4 Hitter,” will be looking to win his first Golden Glove in the third base category, while NC’s Park Gun-woo, who has never won a Golden Glove before, will be looking to win in the outfield category 15 years after his debut. Also nominated were foreign players who performed well in their debut seasons in the KBO. NC Pedi, who won the KBO MVP in the 2023 season, and Kiwoom Hurado, who has been a consistent performer, are nominated in the pitching category, while Austin, a key player in the LG championship, 스포츠토토사이트 is nominated in the first base category. SSG Eredia and NC Martin, who led their teams to the postseason with their batting performances, are also nominated in the outfield category.
The winner of the Golden Glove will be crowned at the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO Golden Glove Awards on Monday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. at the COEX Auditorium in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
