Gurye-gun, South Jeolla Province, announced today that it will host the international triathlon event “Ironman Gurye Korea 2023” for four days starting next month. The event will be held at Jirisan Lake Park in Sandong-myeon, Gurye-gun, and a WTC (World Triathlon Corporation) certified course. The event will be held for the first time in five years after being canceled due to Typhoon Tapa in 2019 and the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since 2020.This year, 11,100 athletes from 34 countries will push themselves to the limit .Athletes must complete the 226-kilometer course, including a 3.8-kilometer swim, 180-kilometer bike ride, and 42.2-kilometer run, in less than 17 hours. The top finishers will earn a spot in the 2024 Ironman World Championship The event will begin at 7 a.m. on Sept. 10 and will include a swim, bike, and marathon. Gurye-gun, in cooperation with the police, will control road traffic in some sections of Shandong-myeon, Cheonunsa Temple, and Sasungam on the day of the event. “We will prepare for the event by prioritizing the safety of athletes and residents,” said Kim Sun-ho, head of 스포츠토토링크 Gurye-gun.
