The Lotte Giants committed three throwing errors in one game that cost them the game.
Lotte lost 4-10 against the Kiwoom Heroes at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on Sept. 9. The loss halted their recent two-game winning streak.
Lotte sent homegrown ace Park Se-woong to start the game.
After getting off to a good start in the top of the first inning with a sacrifice fly by Nico Gudrum, Lotte faltered in the second. In the bottom of the inning, Park gave up a single and a walk to put runners on first and second with nobody out, but was forced out at second on Kim Tae-jin’s grounder to the first baseman. Shortstop Gudrum then tried to turn a double play by throwing to Park Se-woong at first base, but the ball was misdirected. Kiwoom Song Sung-moon, who moved from second to third, took advantage of the error and scored the tying run.
In the third inning, Park gave up back-to-back singles to Lee Yong-gyu, Kim Hye-sung, and Ronnie Dawson to cut the deficit to 2-1. A walk to Song Sung-moon put runners on first and second with nobody out. Park Se-woong induced a grounder to Lee Ju-hyung at first base, but Ko Seung-min couldn’t make the first-time catch. He then tried to get a force out with a grounder to first, but it was too far off the mark for Lee to catch, and two runners crossed the plate to make it 1-4.
Kim Tae-jin followed with a single, but Yoon Dong-hee’s throw to right field was way off. Catcher Lee Jung-geun had no choice but to 토토사이트 throw it out. Two runners crossed the plate with ease, and Kim Tae-jin advanced to second base.
Lotte scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull within 10-8, thanks to the Kiwoom bullpen’s struggles. With runners on second and third in the top of the ninth, a home run would be enough to pull off the upset. However, Noh Jin-hyuk grounded out to the outfield to end the game.
Lotte rallied in the final inning, but it was painful to give up so many runs early on. The early collapse was largely due to starting pitcher Park Se-woong, who pitched a season-low two and a third innings (six hits, six runs, and three earned) and committed three errors. The unnecessary errors in the early innings made it difficult for them to win.
