Supercomputer predictions suggest Tottenham is in 5th place, with Man U and Man City similar in the title race.
The supercomputer is still not happy with Tottenham.
Arsenal defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the eighth round of the 2023-2024 Premier League on Monday (Sept. 9) at the Emirates Stadium in London, England.
The win extends Arsenal’s unbeaten run to eight games (6 wins, 2 draws) and puts them in second place with 20 points. They have the same number of points as leader Tottenham, but are behind on goal difference. Man City, on the other hand, 바카라사이트 dropped to third place with 18 points (6W, 2D) after another knee-jerk reaction to their loss to Wolverhampton.
The game came down to the second half. Arsenal gradually gained the momentum and took the lead. In the 41st minute, Gabriel Martinelli curled a shot from the edge of the box that deflected off a defender and into the back of the net. The game ended with a thrilling one-point win for Arsenal.
It was the moment Arsenal broke the longstanding City jinx. Arsenal beat City for the first time in eight years in the league, ending a 12-game losing streak in the head-to-head. Mikel Arteta’s side also finally beat City, making it 24 wins against all the teams they’ve faced in the Premier League.
For City, it was a tough loss. The absence of key midfielder Rodriguez through suspension was too much to bear. It was City’s first league defeat in five years since December 2018, according to soccer statistics outlet Opta. They also managed just four shots on target on the day, their lowest total since Pep Guardiola took over as manager.
Tottenham had something to smile about, too. On July 7, Tottenham overcame the sending-off of Yves Bissouma to beat Luton Town 1-0 and take a surprise lead at the top of the table. With six wins and two draws, they remain level on points with Arsenal, with the same goal difference, but with an 18 to 16 goal advantage.
Spurs will now hold onto the top spot for about two weeks before the next nine rounds take place. The ‘North London brothers’ and Arsenal will now sit comfortably at the top of the leaderboard and look forward to the October A-match break.
According to global statistics company Opta, it has been 39 years since October 19, 1984 (Round 10) that two teams finished first and second after Round 8. Behind Spurs, Arsenal, and Man City are fourth-place Liverpool (17 points), fifth-place Aston Villa (16 points), and Brighton (16 points).
Despite this, the supercomputer still stuck to its prediction. In the UK, BetExpert’s supercomputer predictions for the PL still have City at the top of the table. They claim that City will beat Arsenal by three points and win their fourth consecutive league title.
What’s interesting is Tottenham’s performance. “The computer said Spurs would not finish in the top four even as it stands. They will finish the season in fifth place, behind Liverpool and Newcastle,” according to the UK’s The Sun, “followed by Manchester United and Aston Villa.”
